MASTER LOCK SUITE

Master key Systems generally fall within a few categories.

As a general rule of thumb,  the systems are made up of door cylinders each with its own key but all operated by one or different levels of Master keys.

Schools and large institutions are increasingly investing in MKS designs. For example, the Headmaster would hold the Master Key which opens every door in the building. Rooms are grouped together into different sections, i.e science labs, classrooms, caretaker rooms etc. and an individual teacher or member of admin staff would then be given a key to open the

doors within a group of rooms. This ensures that teachers and caretakers do not have to carry large amounts of individual keys.

A few more examples of MKS are:

  • Grand Master Suites: The Grand Master Key opens all doors and the Master key/s only opens designated doors. For example, this could be a suite of offices on six floors with each floor having its own Master Key: This key would only open the doors on one floor so there would be six Master Keys (1 for each floor) and 1 Grand Master Key. Furthermore, each office can have its own individual key.

  • The Master Key Suite for Landlords: this is ideal for the Landlord with HMOs as they can incorporate Sub Masters for one or a small group of houses typically within a designated area. This type of suite works very well for maintenance workers or cleaning contractors.

Restricted vs non-restricted systems. A restricted key system provides security and control to any home or business security system. In a restricted key system, keys can only be duplicated by an authorised person, it can only be cut by the Locksmith who originally produced the MKS. On a restricted system, you ultimately have more control of your keys and this ensures peace of mind as you know no one can duplicate your keys or access your property once you have received your keys back.

Our Locksmith will always discuss all the options and the different ways of designing the suite based on the criteria given by the customers.

Ultimately, the route to implementing a successful Master Key Suite is to plan ahead and find a simple design that is focused on physical security to help protect your property and tenants.

We will set up the Master Key Suite after we have received a range of information. For example, we will ask you the following questions to determine the best solution for you:-

  • How many doors requiring cylinders would you envisage over the next 5+ years?

  • Do you want a restricted or non-restricted system?

  • Will these all be in a single location?

  • What level of key security would you require?

Master Key Suite Designs range from basic to complex. We encourage all our customers to be aware that the more complex the system, the more frequent the need to regularly maintain the suite.
